M/Y Highlander, Feadship – Superyacht, originally built for Malcolm Forbes by De Vries in 1986. It was long seen as one of the best-known symbols of big business, plying the east coast of the USA as a corporate yacht for Forbes magazine. Recently purchased by new owners, luxury charter yacht Highlander (ex The Highlander) has recently gone through a comprehensive refit at Derecktor Florida, which included her lengthening her hull from 46.5m to 49.5m as well as a full interior overhaul, major mechanicals and a fresh coat of paint.  The improved Highlander was re-launched in the last year, the new owner has been keen to offer her as a charter of the highest standards of luxury.

Built with exterior and interior design by Bannenburg and Rowell, Highlander is easily one of the most recognizable superyachts on the water today, and one of the most premiere additions to the global charter fleet in the last decade. In its time on the water,  she has  been host to powerful luminaries from around the world- from Liz Taylor and Robert De Niro to Ronald Reagan and HRH Prince Charles.

The interior is bathed in luxury and accouterments, including original pop art works and a gorgeous marble staircase. Outside on the vessel, you’ll find glorious sunbathing, an elegant dining area, a helipad, and even an inviting jacuzzi. Inside the tender garage, you’ll find a gallery of tenders and tools for fun- including a 6.7m fully restored & gorgeous Donzi and a 5.8m classic tender custom built for Malcolm Forbes by The Cigarette Racing Team of Miami. highlanders-floating-staircase2 During its recent improvements, the Highlander was lengthened by the yard to 164′ LOA. It also included a stern extension that incorporated an Opacmare Transformer. Although it retains gorgeous dark green paint for which she is famous for, superyacht Highlander’s profile is a bit more soft than it has been before- thanks to subtle touches of modern elegance added by the designers and owners. This has resulted in a unique hybrid of the original Bannenburg lines along with a more contemporary look that emphasizes the classic and modern at the same time.
“This project has been a great collaboration between the owners, their design team and the shipyard,” said the yard’s project manager Jack Schneider. “It is very rewarding to see an older vessel of historical significance restored to her former glory.”
