The YikeBike was identified as one of the best ideas yet on the planet. It was described as paradigm-busting when it comes to efficiency, lifestyle and consumption- a true green game changer. Boaters of any type and size now have an efficient and just plain fun form of transportation when away from your home port- no matter where the winds and seas take you.
For boaters, deck space is always a concern, and the YikeBike’s compact design is excellent for onboard storage above or below deck. It leaves no carbon footprint, no chains, no oil or greases – no damage to your vessel’s interior or exterior.
“We created the YikeBike to dramatically change urban and suburban transportation by providing users with a fast, safe, cost-effective, eco-friendly way to navigate their cities and towns,” said YikeBike CEO Grant Ryan. “The original, upscale, carbon fiber YikeBike generated tremendous interest among early adopters when we unveiled it in late 2010. This led us – in record breaking time – to design the more mainstream YikeBike Fusion, which uses conventional materials to make it more appealing to both cost-conscious and energy-conscious consumers,” describes Ryan.
Wondering how long this electric bike stays charged? It depends on the amount of battery discharge, but a typical time would be 60 minutes for 80% charge with a fast charger. A full charge takes 1 hour and 30 minutes with optional fast charger, and a 4 hour recharge with the desktop charger that comes with each YikeBike. The YikeBike Carbon model weighs 24.7 pounds, the Synergy model weighs 27 pounds, and the Fusion model weights 30.8 pounds. Currently the YikeBike has a range of 8 to 10 miles, with Extender BackPack the range can be up to 15 to 20 miles. You can now extend the range by purchasing an Extender BackPack. The YikeBike uses the latest Lithium Manganese batteries, which are good for up to 3 years.
At about half of the size and weight of other electric bicycles and many regular bicycles, all models of the YikeBike are the perfect vehicle for urban and suburban use, especially for commuters and boaters.
YikeBike can be folded or unfolded in about 15 seconds, and is light and portable enough to be carried onto a bus, boat, train or elevator, or stored in the trunk of a car or under a desk. Its portability also means that consumers need never to worry about the storing, securing, or possible theft or vandalism of their YikeBike.
The YikeBike can comfortably be ridden by anyone from 5’4” to 6’4″. There is no need to adjust the seat because you do not pedal – your height relative to the seat is only important to how much your knees are bent when riding. The YikeBike can comfortably take a rider and personal effects weighing up to 100kg. Beyond this weight, they do not warrant performance.
