NW Holiday Wine For Boaters – Tiz The Season! Scarborough Winery in Seattle is owned by Travis Scarborough, a Napa Valley (St. Helena), native came up to Washington where he could live out his dream of making wine for himself. Growing up in the Napa Valley he worked for Pine Ridge, Chateau Montelena, & Viader Winery & Vineyards. Tired of helping to craft the great wines, he was able to start with a mere 300 cases while working two other jobs. In 2007 he finally had his own facility and in 2009 was finally able to quit the other jobs and focus his attention on Scarborough Winery (once named O’Shea Scarborough). Since then, production has leveled off at 1500 or so. This allows Travis to personally know each barrel. If you are a fan of Napa Valley wine in general, you may want to look at websites like https://www.wineaccess.com/store/regions/napa-valley/ for a wider range that you can taste test to see what your specific ‘flavor’ is.

If you like overripe, over-oaked, extremely tannic & alcoholic wines, Scarborough Winery is not your place and you may want to look at cases of wine online that suit your tastes better. Conversely, if you like concentrated, but never overripe, and only using about 50-60% new oak, finesse, balance & yet age-worthy, then this is your winery.

Mark Ryan Winery in Woodinville, WA used to be a bit transient. The first vintages of Long Haul and Dead Horse were produced crushed and pressed in garages of friends and family, barrels aged in warehouses in the Seattle Area, and finally settling in Woodinville, WA in 2003.

Over a decade later, Mark Ryan Winery has grown in size, earned acclaim from wine-lovers and critics alike, and garnered respect from the state’s elite producers. The goal, however, remains the same. Make delicious wines that represent the vineyard from which they come, making every vintage better than the last.

Paradiso del Sol winery in Yakima, WA is right in the heart of the Yakima valley. Paradisos’ focus is holistic, wholesome, and healthful wines. Wines that make music in the glass, wines that sing of where they were grown, wines of distinction, wines that you can afford to drink! Their family is the largest consumer of Paradisos del Sol’s wines so the requirement of a high yumminess factor is of great importance. If it doesn’t delight, it doesn’t go into their bottles. Their bottles are all clear glass to ensure easy recycling.

Paradisos uses traditional methods to transform Yakima Valley grapes into distinctive wines. The majority of their wines spend considerable time in barrels. Their wines are often unusual styles in the American marketplace, such as their dry barrel-fermented and barrel-aged Rosé Paradiso.

Latah Creek Wine Cellars in Spokane, WA was established in 1982. The winery is one of only a few family owned and operated wineries within the State. Mike Conway, with over 40 years of winery experience, and his wife Ellena pair together to run one of the most successful small wineries in this relatively new viticultural region.

Grapes from which Latah Creek’s award winning wines are made come from two geographically different areas about 150 miles South and West of the winery. The vineyard producing their Merlot, Cabernet and Sangiovese grapes (along with their Muscat Canelli) is located in Central Washington on the south facing hills of the Wahluke Slope. This region boasts the longest and warmest growing season in the Northwest.

English Estate in Vancouver, WA is Vancouver’s first vineyard and winery located on the old English Farm: a historic oasis. They are located on a gravel ridge at the mouth of the Columbia River Gorge in Southwest Washington State. As a result, they have many of the same characteristics of the Willamette Valley region in Oregon.

As such, English Estate’s primary focus has been estate-grown Pinot Noir, of which they have about four acres. They also grow perhaps Western Washington’s only Cabernet Sauvignon. They are also known for their sweet dessert Nectars, fortified with brandy made from their own wine. Raspberries and Plums harvested here on the farm compliment their other nectars made from Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir juice.
Their wines are handcrafted from vines they tend year round. On occasion, they blend with other wines produced in Washington state to round out flavors and create something really unique.
