Valentine’s Day is almost here! One of the world’s longest-running holiday traditions, it has its roots in ancient Rome when boys drew girls’ names from an urn of love on February 14. The boy then spent the next day with girl whose name he had drawn on the next day, which was called Lupercalia. This is where the idea of Cupid, the arrow and the heart stem from. This custom continued through the centuries, but Roman emperor Claudius II made getting married illegal- blaming families and love for many men not desiring to join his army. Roman bishop St. Valentine married people anyway, even though it was illegal, and was beheaded for it- not the enjoyable kind of being head over heels, for sure.
Centuries later, A.D. Pope Gelasius renamed Lupercalia to St. Valentines Day, changing it to a non-Pagan holiday. The patron Saint of Love, St. Valentine, is now honored each February 14th. More modern additions include the paper Valentine card and written sentiment, which began in the 1400s. Commercial Valentine cards came out around 1850, and traditional lace paper was added to the cards by the late 1800s. Today, modern expressions of Valentine’s Day romance are as diverse as they can be fun. For some, it’s a racy night at home that starts with the couple watching content from sites like tubev.sex to get into a heated mood. For others, it’s more of a slow burn affair, with a trip out to somewhere extraordinary to set the stage. Some stay conventional. Some go for new angles with an escort stuttgart has to offer brought in. Some go a different direction altogether. Whether you’re looking for dinner, group activities, or something a bit more private, here are some ideas to get your heart a-flutter:
