Superyachts in the Pacific Northwest has been growing each year.  Seattle maritime industry has some of the world’s best craftsmen in the world, this fact brings superyachts to the greater Pacific Northwest more and more.  The captain of a superyacht is in essence the CEO of the vessel, reporting direct to the boss/yacht owner and or the boss’s business manager.  The day to day functions of running a vessel 100 ft to 300 plus ft are full of daily projects and must do’s, detailings, systems, provisions, fuel, repairs, custom features, crew management and vendor relations, each vessel is its own utopian society, its own private city of luxury on the water.

Lady Lola, was built by Dutch shipyard Oceanco as a far cruising yacht and private luxury superyacht. Lady Lola is in Seattle to enjoy our amazing and majestic Pacific Northwest endless cruising grounds. Superyacht captains do need to do a little homework about our channels, canals and lakes before they hit the PNW.  For instance not all captains are excited about bringing a 62 meter yacht through the Ballard Locks, up the narrow ship canal that is loaded with tons of marine traffic from AK Bering Sea crab boats, seiners, gillnetters, tugboats  pushing 300 ft gravel barges, sailboats, pleasure boaters, stand up paddle boarders, kayakers, if it floats your bound to see it underway in Seattle’s busy ship canal. For PNW locals we love the busy marine traffic, for superyacht captains who a little green in our packed channels is can add a few gray hairs for the nervous chaps at the wheel.

Washington’s maritime industry celebrates the passage of the Marine Tourism Bill, which after over four years, with a lot of blood sweat and tears, finally passed the state House of Representatives. This Bill was no easy task to get passed, it make sense for our marine industry to allow superyachts to say longer in the PNW.  Florida for instance is a great positive example of a large and thriving superyacht industry and community that brings billions of dollars of economic impact to the maritime industry and all local surrounding communities. The WA Bill allows superyachts and yachts registered as an LLC, to stay in Washington waters 180 days before a 10 percent tax on the value of the boat is imposed by the state of Washington. The passing of this bill has been a long over due needed blessing for the WA to AK maritime industry!

FYI:  Note in the past, that tax would be imposed after an LLC-registered or entity owned vessel stayed more than 60 days. The tax is imposed whether the yachts are built here or just visiting. Smaller pleasure boat vessels, privately owned already get to stick around 180 days before they are taxed on their value. Specialists have stated the passing of this bill for the 180 day green light to stay in the PNW will bring the Pacific Northwest over 40 million in new economic impact and revenue.

Superyacht owners and crew, on behalf of our high skilled and thriving maritime industry in the PNW to AK we welcome you and encourage you to stay in play in our gorgous Northwest region!
