The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show is almost here! The biggest yacht show in the “Yachting Capital of the World”, it features more big boats than you’re ever likely to see in one place. Here’s a look at four manufacturers behind some of the highlights of this year’s show!

The Nordhavn 86 is a maritime marvel Following the unparalleled success of the Nordhavn 76 with its sophisticated systems and construction features, the Nordhavn engineering and manufacturing team was ready for a larger vessel at 86 feet. This Nordhavn represents PAE’s firm entry into the megayacht market. With a 24-foot beam, she is more than impressive at first sight, however her full load displacement of over 400,000 pounds allows her to compare with many vessels well over 100 feet. Building on the experience of hundreds of thousands of ocean crossing miles and applying the “form follows function” rule, this ultimate offshore passagemaker has been designed in an aft wheelhouse configuration. There is no question the Nordhavn 86 is a large yacht, and you’ll have to see it at FLIBS to believe it.

Nordhavn vessels of 76, 68, and 60 feet will also be on display at FLIBS, if 86 seems just a bit out of your price range. Visit them at the show, and you’ll be in ‘Nord heaven for sure.

f65overview

The Fleming 65 will be featured at FLIBS, and was introduced in mid 2005 in response to a strong demand for an intermediate Fleming between the 55 and the 75. Her layout is very similar in concept to the 55 but the 65, being around 70% larger in displacement, offers much more interior and deck space than her smaller sibling. Fleming Yachts decided to retain hull number 1 to evaluate her design performance as a well-found cruising yacht as well as providing a test bed for new equipment. Internationally respected ‘Yachts’ magazine voted the Fleming 65 best yacht in her class, worldwide, for 2006.

This vessel incorporates the latest in systems technology and a variety of design refinements. For added safety and enhanced maneuverability, all Flemings are twin-engine yachts. Demonstrating the safety advantage of their twin-engine design, they can achieve normal cruising speeds with one engine and only a 15-degree rudder deflection. Everywhere you look, you’ll see that Flemings are designed with the experienced cruiser in mind. Over the years each model has enjoyed the benefit of hundreds of refinements and improvements inspired not only by owners who are providing real world feedback, but by Tony Fleming himself, who is cruising extensively on his very own Fleming 65, VENTURE (seen above). For those on a slightly smaller boat budget, a 55′ Fleming yacht will also be available to view at FLIBS.

Kady-Krogen 55, Kama Hele Kai, in Anacortes WA

The Krogen 55′ Expedition, on display at FLIBS, sets a new standard for long-range full displacement trawler yachts offering rugged globetrotting capability and technologically advanced construction features, plus new exterior styling with a handsome sheer and a graceful raked bow. Innovative interpretations of Kadey-Krogen’s home-like comfort and highly sociable interior spaces highlight this all-new design; the living area is nearly 25 percent larger than that of other comparably sized vessels.

This Krogen  is an expedition-style globetrotter with a range of well over 3000 miles at 8 knots, or the equivalent of nonstop from Annapolis to Antigua at 9 knots. She has an ample fuel capacity of 1800 gallons. Sure and steady twin John Deere 4045AFM85 M1 rated engines power her, each achieving 160HP. To support this propulsion, the underbody features twin counter-faired skegs—a Kadey-Krogen innovation for maximum efficiency. Those familiar with Kadey-Krogen will also recognize the natural flow and comfortable look and feel of the living quarters, as the 55′ Expedition reflects the experience that only can be gained in 30 years of building liveaboard passagemaking trawler yachts.

Ocean Alexander 100 Yacht

Debuting at FLIBS 2014 is the new Ocean Alexander 100, designed by Evan K. Marshall, is a natural next step from Ocean Alexander’s highly successful 90 motoryacht.  The new OA 100 has been designed with chartering as a high priority.  It incorporates a galley that is a stand-out in the industry for this sized vessel and provides the space required for a chef to prepare true gourmet meals.  Overall, the crew quarters has been greatly enlarged, as well as the addition of strategic storage space throughout the vessel.  The OA 100 has formal dining for eight while maintaining an enormous salon seating space.  There’s a wet-bar in the salon in addition to a day head on the main deck for ease and convenience.  Forward of the galley is a very large settee area for relaxed seating and casual dining.

Two generations of one family have guided Ocean Alexander over the past 35 years. With manufacturing in Taiwan and United States, Ocean Alexander’s combined yacht-building facilities make it among the largest in Asia, producing models ranging from 72 to 155 feet in length. Ocean Alexander is based in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Its yachts are available in the U.S. through dealers in Seattle, WA; Newport Beach, CA; and MarineMax locations from Texas east. Other Ocean Alexander boats on display include their 90′ Skylounge and Open Flybridge makes, and several other smaller-but-nonetheless-amazingly-gorgeous vessels on display as well.
