The Pacific Northwest takes full advantage of snow days that shut down roads and nearly all local Puget Sound Schools and PNW Universities and colleges. The Seattle Boat Show came to a close, the early February winter storm was perfect timing for Seattle Yacht Brokers to have to move their boats out of the boat show at South Lake Union to their home port slips, a lot of which had to get a ship canal few bridge lifts and a Ballard Locks drop to make their way home in the Puget Sound.
Tug boats and commercial fishing boats that spend most of their time in Alaskan waters have no fear of our snowiest NW storm in over 5 years. Commercial vessels and crews are geared up for all and any stormy season. Western Towboat tugs make their way up the canal home to Western Towboat, Factory Trawlers are still getting moved with tugboat assists, trawlers are fueling to run up hill, commercial marine traffic is underway without a glitch, snow or no snow they get-er done. Foul weather gear is always on board, especially since this early February NW storm did come to most as a surprise, this time our weather man was correct.
In the PNW Seattle’s Sea-Tac Airport reported 7.1″ of snow, our 1st weekend in February 2017, making it the snowiest storm since the great snow and ice storm of January 2012, it’s been 5 years since we’ve seen snow that shut down the entire Pacific Northwest region.
Foul weather gear in the Pacific Northwest for land and sea. This is one area NW folks know not to cut corners on. In NW stormy weather dockside, in the country, wilderness working at sea or sailing, we all know waterproof and wind-resistant material and gear are nearly life saving and the different between freezing in stormy weather and surviving in stormy weather. Plan head, think ahead, be prepared, and be mindful in our PNW to AK winter stormy season.
