Superyachts in the greater Pacific Northwest are at an all time high from the past few years. These enormous 100 ft. to 300 ft. plus floating cities have a huge ecomomic impact when docked in the Pacific Northwest. The average superyacht has a crew of 9 – 15 full time crew 365 days a year. Fishing vessels in Seattle waterways and waterfront bring season and annual expenditures who all require these top services, shipyard haul outs and yard work, haul out paint, engine repairs and propulsion, insurance, electronics, fuel, systems fluids, parts, gear, supplies, welding/fabrication, fire safety systems, and yes if your now fish for certain fisheries captain and crew are required to pass drug testing and some require signing contracts to ensure no drinking alcohol while working on the fishing vessel – and not even aloud to drink in local AK village bars – NO PIT trips if you’re in Bristol Bay!

Commercial fishing vessels that you may have seen in the past few weeks in the Seattle Ship Canal include, seiners (FYI: SE AK Seiners – are like the 1st ants to a picnic –buzzing everywhere round the Ship Canal!!!), gillnetters, trollers, longliners, crabbers, catch trawlers, tenders, big boy factory trawlers and floating village processors.
Recreational boaters with private owners who stay and play throughout Seattle waterways, the San Juan Islands and up to SE Alaska are also a huge ecomomic impact contributor to Seattle Ports, Shilshole Marina and all pleasure boat marinas up and down the north west coast. Every year data is collected about NW/Seattle Recreational boaters – marina tenants bring in revenue with Yacht Clubs, bars, restaurants, hotels, schools, retails stores, shopping, entertainment parks, boat yards, marine chandleries, marine services and much more. Year round use of NW pleasure boats is a great contribution to marine usage spending and growing in local waterfront regions such as Ballard, Seattle Ship Canal, Fremont, Magnolia, lower Queen Anne, Lake Union, South Lake Union and Lake Washington.
