Welcome to Spring in the Pacific Northwest!  Boaters fire up the engines and break out the BBQ, longer days and sunshine is here!   Fishermen are already getting on the fish in SE AK, Herring season is underway.   With Northwest and Alaska’s mild winter this year the predictions are that Alaska’s fishing grounds will run hard and early compared to the last few years.  For instance the peak of Bristol Bay Sockeye Salmon Fishing used to be on the 4th of July.  Fishermen were on the fish and tenders had boats lined up on trailer buoy’s to take fish, while blasting fireworks off the stern. Hopefully that’s the case this July 4th.

In Naknek AK this past winter the river never officially froze, in other words South side didn’t have their road/river to drive across to get to town on the North side.  Some locals did risk it on four wheels way up river and got across; but most folks on South side said,  “it was patchy ice and it wasn’t worth it – to risk falling through.”  We might have our occasional NW spring storms, but it’s still one of the most majestic places on earth.  We have a chance to literally watch mother nature work as her creations grow and move right before our eyes in the Northwest!
