F/V Saga, Deadliest Catch, Alaska Bering Sea Crabber has gotten a cosmetic facelift, shave and a haircut. Saga used to have a navy blue hull with yellow letters in the boat name and yellow rub-rail stripes. To current time in 2017 she has substituted the yellow paint for opaque red.
Jake Anderson has been the Captain on F/V Saga the past few AK Bering Sea Crab Seasons. It was no secret that Jake was itching to make his way to the helm chair and run his own boat. First thing Jake did was a major Saga refit renovation, then new crew, new blood, and a full reband Saga overhaul.

F/V Saga has a major engine room and hydraulics systems refit, new blower fans, new plumbing, new fuel pump, total rewiring of the boat, install of new breakers, all four engines were totally rebuilt with two new Valcan couplings installed in gearboxes. Saga also got new refrigeration systems for refrigerated seawater; top on the refit list adding on new forward bait freezers and three new crab pumps. The engine room has been custom fitted with new LED lighting, fresh sparkly paint in all bulkheads and overheads, bilge, deck plates and engines; amen for new paint to spot leaks and engine room issues underway.

The deck on the F/V Saga, has new custom pads, cradle for the crane, new counterbalances for the crane to swing, fifteen new hydraulic valve handles and the gear box rebuilt, as well as the anchor wench and rams rebuilt and new coiler. The pick winch and table had new valve handlers, thank goodness now the crew on deck can land pots from the deck.

Jake Anderson was former crew on F/V Northwestern, also on Deadliest Catch a local Seattle, Ballard homeport AK Bering Sea Crabber. Now that Jake Is running the Saga and his new upgrade to the Saga in the past year or so the boat is looking good and of course after this recent 2017 crab season the boat is in need of another new paint job, shave and new haircut, stick out time before the next season before she runs back up hill from Seattle to Alaska.
Being related to the Mavar family of Bristol Bay and Naknek, Alaska Fishermen, this explains a lot about Jake Anderson being a fourth generation fishermen from the Pacific Northwest. Captain Sig Hansen took on the greenhorn Jake on the F/V Northwestern, Sig was a well known mentor and teacher of the sea to Jake. Best of luck Saga Crew and Captain Jake, May you always cherish your time and sea and the plentiful majesty of Mother Nature’s plentiful bounty.
