M/Y Rockstar, a 161 foot Trinity superyacht currently on sale for $21 million dollars, tore the roof off on their most recent voyage- but not in the party sense. While cruising the intercoastal waterway, the yacht which costs over a quarter million for a weeklong charter had a drawbridge unexpectedly come down and  do some tens of thousands of dollars with of damage. At the time, the vessel was standing by for a visit from the Coast Guard and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission before it continued on.

According to  J.C. Jimenez, the Assistant City Mananger,  the vessel was being towed and the tow company had requested both sides of the bridge be raised for passage. Shortly after, the east side of the bridge slipped suddenly and dropped right on the roof of the yacht- causing severe damage to the vessel. Estimated to be in the tens of thousands of dollars to repair, thankfully none of the fifteen passengers aboard the yacht were injured- and apparently neither was the hot tub.

The incident all occurred on the 60-something year old Broad Causeway, which will soon be undergoing a $13 million dollar rejuvenation. This causeway connects the Bay Harbor Islands and Bal Harbour with the ever-bustling North Miami. The drawbrige is among the repairs targeted even before this incident, as there’s been past electrical issues that will result in part of the drawbridge mechanism being replaced. Currently, the drawbridge is being tested to ensure it’s working the way it’s supposed to until the rehab project starts.

As of the evening of the incident happening, vessels and other maritime traffic were able to pass under the bridge. Earlier in the day, crossing traffic was highly restricted. No further incidents have been reported as of writing. Engineers are still evaluating the course of events in order to figure out what specifically went wrong, but the accident appears to have been definitively an incident with the bridge rather than an incident with the crew towing the M/Y Rockstar.
