Itasca, 176 ft. superyacht made her way down hill in the Puget Sound jogging into Shilshole Bay, WA. As M/Y Atasca was running down south then eastbound to Seattle WA Ship Canal, they passed M/Y Mine Games, 203 ft. Benetti Superyacht whom just departed Salmon Bay Marine Center, SBMC in Seattle just east of the Ballard Locks.

M/Y Itasca at 176 ft. is a solid engineered superyacht with excellent proportions. One of her many claim to fame was her 12 month cruising which conquered worldly oceans travelling 30,000 nautical miles. We are delighted to see her back in Seattle again it been almost a decade since she was last in Seattle visiting the Pacific Northwest.
Itasca has a unique history to from her build and original sea going purpose to her past and current refits, she had a few shaves and modern day superyacht haircuts. M/Y Itasca was built by J & K Smits Scheepswerven in The Netherlands as an ocean-going salvage tug. Formerly she was named THAMES III, she is one of three sisterships built, as of today August 2017 – only ‘ITASCA’ is still in existence. By origin she was a tug, Itasca was in commercial service until 1979, she was then converted to a luxury superyacht where she has since been exploration yachting history by circumnavigated the world three times, including being one of the first yachts to pass through the Northwest Passage when owned by the former US Secretary of the Treasury, William E Simon. Not many superyachts today have this voyaging track record of sea time and stories to tell from experience.

Itasca is designed – Dutch made yacht which was launched to celebration in 1961. Itasca yacht features include: accommodating 10 passengers and 12 crew members.
M/Y Itasca has 71,855 gallon fuel capacity. This expedition yacht has travelled the world and perhaps has one of the most impressive lists of cruising itineraries for a luxury motor yacht. From the Bering Strait to Cape Horn to the icy world of Antarctica, this fuel efficient boat can travel 13,000 nautical miles at 11 knots before having to re-fuel, she’s a superyacht captain and owner’s circumnavigation dream boat.
M/Y Itasca – Engineering and Performance Features:
Itasca has been installed with two SMIT-MAN diesel main engines, ITASCA can at hit a high speed of 12 knots. Connected to her Smit-MAN engine(s) are a single screw prop. She also has an economical range of 18000 miles whilst underway at her cruising speed of 11 knots. Her total HP is 2500 HP and her total Kilowatts are 1840. Her bow thrusters – she was built with Smit. As for her stabilizers she uses Vosper. She’s a great performance package for underway cruising in calm or snotty seas around the globe.
