Fisherman’s Terminal, operated by the Port of Seattle, is home to some of the vessels that are on the Discovery ‘s Deadliest Catch.  Fishermen’s Terminal is located on Salmon Bay in the Interbay neighborhood of Seattle, Washington, east of the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks and immediately west of the Ballard Bridge. The primary service at Fishermen’s Terminal is providing for Commercial Fisherman, but has expanded in scope after it was discovered that  recreational boats and fishing boats are completely compatible with each other. In fact, a lot of commercial fishermen keep their recreational boats at Fishermen’s Terminal- twenty percent of the fisherman who dock their commercial vessel at Fishermen’s Terminal also dock their pleasure craft there!

“The Fishermen had a choice of ‘all commercial’ docks and ‘all recreational’ docks, being segregated.   They voted to mix them together,  everyone is compatible.  Our customers are all boaters,” says Ray Giometti, Fishermen’s Terminal Harbor Master.  Giometti is well known on the docks by his friendly smile and charisma, while always looking out for the best interest of his tenants. Walking down the docks of Fishermen’s Terminal with Giometti is an experience engulfed with a lot of hurry up hard work by fishermen, sea storytelling, and thankful handshakes with greetings from regular boat tenants and seasonal boats who either stay and play or fishermen prepping the boat for the next run to find the fish.

“For anyone who hasn’t been to Fishermen’s terminal lately hasn’t been to Fishermen’s terminal; we don’t have wooden docks anymore; we have brand new state of the art concrete docks”, says Giometti.   The newest dock is 5 years old, all new electrical 220/480 for bigger boats.  On site are four Restaurants, a Tavern, Mail and Shipping Services, a great Coffee Shop, Fresh Fish Market, a Gallery and a Golf Course  ½ mile away adjacent to Fishermen’s Terminal.   Boaters, make the most of  the ‘Dock and Dine’ face dock, up to 100 ft directly in front of Chinook’s Restaurant, call Fishermen’s Terminal, VHF Channel 17; to reserve your ‘Dock and Dine’ location with four hours free guest dock space available.  “I’m not selling moorage, I am selling more time on your boat.’’ says Giometti.

The facility also includes 227,000 square feet (21,100 m2) of office, retail, restaurant, light industry and warehouse space. Among the retail establishments are Wild Salmon Seafood Market, which started as a cooperative for fishermen to sell their local catch, and Bilingual Books, the Seattle-based language instruction publisher, who produce many useful tools that help with communicating on and off the boat.

Fishermen’s Terminal is home to the Fishermen’s Memorial, a bronze and stone sculpture with plaques memorializing more than 500 local commercial fishermen and women who have been lost at sea since the beginning of the 20th century. The memorial is managed by its own non-profit organization.
