Captain Tony Lara, Deadliest Catch former Captain on F/V Cornelia Marie
Deadliest Catch is more than a TV Show on Discovery Channel. The Bering Sea Crab grounds will miss seasoned crab fishermen Tony Lara. Lara on died on August 8, 2015. Following the death of Phil Harris in 2010 Captain of the F/V Cornelia Marie, Captain Lara ran the boat with Phil’s son Josh Harris. Ironically Lara hired Josh when he was 15 years old to work on the Cornelia Marie in Josh’s greenhorn days, Lara gave Josh his original shot on the boat.
While Lara was Captain on the F/V Cornelia Marie in the wheel house he gives seasoned advice to Josh Harris about how to deal with crew that ‘screws up’ – Captain Lara’s words of wisdom are 3 things in words: 1.) You compliment the guy, it takes him off the defence, 2.) Address the issue at hand, 3.) Tell them a joke, tell them about when you mess up worse than he did, Lara closes with, ‘If your gonna teach a guy how to do things stick to those 3 steps!’ On a prior season of Deadliest Catch Josh describes working for or Tony as ‘real inspirational.’ Josh Harris describes Tony as, ‘a real team player and a ‘f…..’ rock star!’ Lara is an extremely respected fishermen, his legend of teamwork on the boat and at sea will live on!

The 75th Annual Motorcycle Rally was on the same weekend in Sturgis, South Dakota – seasoned fishermen Lara was in attendance. His death has been determined due to a heart attack. The Rally in Sturgis has claimed 12 lives in motorcycle crashes, making this 2015 event the deadliest in its history.

Tony Lara passed away at 50 years old. Discovery Channel describes Lara as a veteran AK Bering Sea Crabber. He has recently been running his own freight transport business. Lara worked on the F/V Cornelia Marie in the 1990’s and ran the boat for summer salmon tender season. This summers current summer tender captain is Jack Molan – also a hell of a great guy. Lara was a good friend to Captain Phil Harris, he helped build a lot of the F/V Cornelia Marie during the original construction outfitter her for crab fishing in the Bering Sea.

Lara’s death comes just three weeks after the murder of Deadliest Catch producer Joe McMahon. The 25-year-old McMahon was killed in front of his Pasadena, California home on July 24, 2015. Police stated they found McMahon’s body outside with multiple gunshot wounds. Police identified the murder suspect as 24-year-old Brandon Rafiepour, who knew McMahon. Rafiepour was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot.

Discovery Channel created the TV show Deadliest Catch now in the 11th season they mourn the loss of more than a few members of the Deadliest Catch family. The show is more than a show about watching guys in the Bering Sea drop and pick crab posts. They have captured the hearts of viewers with crew members, family, traditions, roots, heritage, and crazy fishermen superstitions.
