Avanti, Seattle Superyacht the North American summer hot spot – is the Pacific Northwest featuring the world’s best mega yacht cruising grounds. Avanti is sailing under the flag of the Cayman Islands. Avanti was built in 2004, 61m (220 ft.) in length and a beam of 12m with her gross tonnage at 1444 tons, cruising speed at 14 knot, she can step it up to 16 knots; with a range of 7700 nautical miles.
Avanti has had refits in 2006 and 2016. Her exterior was designed by Espen Oeino, Winch Design and her interior was done by Winch Design, Moffit Design. Superyacht Avanti had the prior name of Phoenix and Aurora. The mega yacht Avanti accommodates 12 guests comfortably with 6 guest staterooms.
The Ballard Locks did a lift from Shilshole Bay to WA Ship Canal for M/Y Avanti, in late July. Avanti made her way up the canal, per usual east bound route with a Ballard Bridge and Fremont Bridge lifts eastbound to Nautical Landing Marina on Lake Union. The per usual superyacht dockage destinations in the heart of Seattle tend to be Nautical Landing Marina on Lake Union or Salmon Bay Marine Center, SBMC just east of the Ballard Locks; this is for superyachts who want to put the boat to bed in fresh water.
This Lurssen superyacht was built for the late Jan Kulczyk a Polish businessman in the oil, gas, mineral resources industry. He named her Phoenix, years later he had Lürssen build Phoenix II, almost 100 feet LOA. Avanti’s prior owner Kulczyk sold her to a Russian government official who named her Aurora, they later sold her in 2016; while also giving her a refit again – to a new down-low off the radar owner who recently named her M/Y Avanti.
Northrop and Johnson Yacht Brokerage sold her for what shook out to being about 58 million and change in US dollars. It’s always enlightening and well just darn interesting – when new superyacht yacht owner’s would like to be ‘under the radar’ and not noticed when they get into town; in Seattle when you drive around what looks like a 6 story skyscraper on the water it’s a bit hard not to notice when the yacht literally casts a 220 ft shadow blocking our Salty Dog Boating News daylight through the window. God Bless all superyacht owners, captains and crew who visit the greater Pacific Northwest and bring wonderful positive economic impact to our PNW maritime industry and community.

Avanti departed Seattle in early August making her way west bound down the WA Ship Canal to the Ballard Locks for a drop back out to the Puget Sound to be splashed back into salty sea water from fresh water. Bon Voyage Avanti, we hope to see ya’ll again in our Northwest waters!
