F/V Pacific Rose, Purse Seine Fishing Vessel, she’s one of the first in the seine fleet to run down hill in this late August. On a perfect Pacific Northwest afternoon she made her way from Southeast Alaska fishing grounds on the downhill run hitting the Puget Sound on a glassy clear day. After a little of stand by to stand by for bridge # 4 and a Ballard Locks lift in the fresh water of the WA Ship Canal, it wasn’t long till Pacific Rose was back and put to bed at her home port at Fishermen’s Terminal.

F/V Pacific Rose, seiner jogging downhill heading home to Seattle after the 2017 summer salmon fishing season. Pacific Rose will follow in the locks off the stern of yachts and sailboats, yep the locks get crowded and hop-in in late summer in the Pacific Northwest.

Just before fishermen enter the greater Seattle Ship Canal they make their run through the amazing Puget Sound; it’s a coastal area of the Pacific Northwest surrounding regions roughly west of the Cascade Range and Olympic Mountains. It is characterized by a complex areas of saltwater bays, islands, sounds and peninsulas carved out by prehistoric glaciers. It’s freaking amazing!

F/V Pacific Rose, wiggling into the Ballard Locks, its gets tight in their on perfect sunny NW days. Ballard Locks also known as Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, on the west end of Salmon Bay built-in 1911, with the purpose – to bring vessels from salt water to the fresh water in the WA Ship Canal, home to some of Alaska’s largest fishing fleets!
