F/V Saga, Deadliest Catch Alaska Bering Sea Crabber made her way from the Bering Sea to the lower 48 Pacific Northwest. Saga cruised into the Ballard Locks for a lift in the wee hours of the morning at the crest of the second day of spring in Seattle. February and March in Seattle and the greater Pacific Northwest are full sweet home comings to many Alaska Bering Sea fishermen being reunited with family and friends dockside.
In lieu of the F/V Destination, AK crab boat disappearance in early February 2017 it seems like an extra blessing this year to see every boat make it home safely with all their crew onboard in and intact. Destination 6 missing crew members are presumed still inside the boat sank in the Bering Sea, RIP Destination. Our thoughts and prayers got out to the their family and loved ones on land and at sea.
F/V Saga, like most AK crabbers waste not time offloading crab pots over at Fishermen’s Terminal in the Seattle WA Ship Canal. The Pacific Northwest has been extra wet and rainy this winter leading into spring, thank you Saga for bring a break in the rain for a tiny window nugget of sunshine in the Pacific Northwest in late March.
All hands on deck on the F/V Saga offloading pots. Captain Jake Anderson and deckhands are all on deck off loading pots, deckhands loading on the get-away pot truck, Captain Jake on deck picking pots as Sean Dunlop mans the crane from the bow. Like a well oiled machine after a very long, wild and traumatic season in Alaska’s unforgiving Bering Sea.
Salty Dog Lab Lookout, is on the move, she’s the most photographed 105 pound black lab with Deadliest Catch AK Bering Sea Crabbers. Crabbers have a unique loud, banging, brute-force sound to them. In addition AK Crabber also have a heck of crane operator great-jerky hydraulic sound that bounce off and all over the ship canal. This Salty Dog can hear a crabber miles away, as goes how sound travel across and down the water!
F/V Saga, it’s been an adventure seeing Jake Anderson become Captain of the Saga and take over the boat, it was a natural progression to a guy with motivation and ambition to get in the chair behind the wheel. From a skinny kid as deckhand and green on the F/V Northwestern to about the time Jake becomes a Dad in the lower 48 they has the opportunity to run his own boat. From the occasional melt down and yelling match, flip outs at crew to still seeing Jake on deck and push pots around, kudos to now Captain Jake for raining hardworking and leading by good well-rounded AK crabber example of leadership from the wheelhouse to on deck.
F/V Saga, Deadliest Catch boat in the Seattle Ship Canal, you know when crabbers are in Seattle when you seen rowing crew boats go by with extra loud screaming coaches in the cold Pacific Northwest rain. Crew coaches and Crab boat captains share a few things in common, the suck it up – not pain no gain mentality, always bend your knees don’t use your back advice, they never quite attitude, and their no crying on the water on the boat. Good luck NW Crew boats and God Bless our AK Bring Sea Crabbers for making it home safely!
