F/V Dominator, Trident trawl catcher 124 ft. fishing vessel made her way from Alaska’s Bering Sea hitting the Ballard locks at the top of a Pacific Northwest spring morning. They must have brought a good luck omen of sunshine, it’s been an extra wet winter and early spring in the Northwest and frankly it’s starting to affect the local folks of our beautiful Emerald City, we are about to grow webbed feet in the NW it’s been so wet for so long this season.

Per usual for Trident trawler F/V Dominator had great timing on her morning Ballard Bridge lift with little stand-by to stand-by lift time. The final homeport destination is Trident Old Yard just east of the bridge next to their old faithful neighbors Western Towboat and their fleet of tricked out tugs, across the canal from Foss Maritime tugs and massive dry dock facility.

Trident Seafoods, Trawler Catcher Vessel Scoop: Trident’s trawler fleet is about 15 vessels ranging in length from 84 ft. to 165 ft. Some Trawler fishing regions are in the Bering Sea, Aleutian Islands and Gulf of Alaska. Their fishing target species is Alaska pollock and Pacific cod, throughout the year. In their off season down time some of their trawlers operate as tenders taking deliveries of Alaska salmon from a fleet of independent fishermen; Bristol Bay gillnetters and Southeast Alaskan seiners. Summer tending is great times on the water, waiting to take fish means, movie time, lots of BBQ’s on the hook and one big happy at sea or top of the ‘y’ on the river reunion, per usual.

Northwest Research Charter Vessel Opportunities: On occasion Trident trawlers do charter work for fisheries as research vessels. To have a charter opportunity during the off season is a blessing and a lucrative pastime to keep the boat moving and working, while helping support our great NW and AK fishermen and their families. Making the most of every vessel research opportunity has become a thriving Pacific Northwest serious competitive bidding business, at sea research and data collection is a must and growing requirement for sea life habitat and human safety at sea and waterfront land communities worldwide.

Vessels for example that are leading the NW research vessel market include M/V Blue Fin, homeport Northlake Shipyard and Norseman and Norseman II, usually calling homeport over at Fishermen’s Terminal; Norseman Maritime describes their specific goal as a research and exploration platform to serve marine researchers and technicians as they seek to explore, they lead by great Pacific Northwest research vessel example.
