Salty Dog Boating News custom marine traffic photography. F/V Northwestern, Deadliest Catch crab boat finished up season 17 for Discovery. The Northwestern has been with Deadliest Catch since it’s launch to the big screen. Northwestern’s home port is her usual Pacific Fishermen Shipyard in Seattle WA. For locals PacFish it’s best known as the Norwegian fishermen’s hot spot in the heart of Ballard WA. There’s a reason Ballard has the 2nd largest Norwegian Days Parade outside or Norway every May 17th. Hopefully the Parade is back next year as we are emerging out of the pandemic.

Northwestern, Deadliest Catch Crew: Captain Sig Hansen, daughter Mandy married to Clark Pederson, Brother Norman Hansen, Nick Mavar, Jr, Karl Rasmussen & so on…. The Northwestern is a staple in the Bering Sea crab boat and summer salmon tender fleet. F/V Northwestern is in the Bering Sea for the fall and winter – crabbing and filming Deadliest Catch. Summer time, the F/V Northwestern Tenders salmon up in Bristol Bay and in the off-season in Seattle at PacFish in Ballard – late Feb till June-ish then sometimes back in Seattle late Aug. and Sept. all depends…. if the Northwestern is in the lower 48, she’s usually getting a ton of work done at Pacific Fishermen Ship. Sometimes the boat on and off loading gear and crab pots at Fishermen’s Terminal on the Northwest dock or West dock, the hydros run loud and the noises bounces around the WA Ship Canal. In short, lots of buzzing around while they keep the boat making money & doing repairs – and repeat!

Deadliest Catch, Season 17, Premier’s in April every year and runs through most of the summer on Discovery Channel. Some crab boats are already done for the season come February and March, some are still hunting down the herd in the Bering Sea till early spring. Pandemic World has all sorts of timelines and fisheries off track this year in 2021. F/V Cornelia Marie makes it back – usually first in the Fleet – fleet being the handful of boats they film on Deadliest Catch, it’s a pin-prick, small window into crabbing in Alaska in the fall and winter. Cornelia Marie landed home in Seattle usually during one of our random PNW snowstorms – they come in hot during the Seattle massive snowpocalypse – sometimes four storms in a row; they make their way all the way down the canal to Lake Union. Northwestern, hits Seattle in the end of February or early March on the usual. God bless our Alaska Bering Sea Crabbers and their families on land and at sea!
