Chris Smith built his first boat in 1874 at the age of 13 in Algonac, Michigan. It was a simple lake boat for duck hunting, but demonstrated an extraordinary natural talent for working with wood. It wasn’t long before Chris and his brother Hank began building a succession of wooden boats. By the beginning of the 20th Century, Chris Smith’s reputation had begun to spread.

At about the same time that Henry Ford starting making cars, Chris Smith began to build speed boats. Experimenting with a variety of hull and gasoline engine combinations, Smith realized that powered boats needed an entirely new type of hull design to ensure efficient movement through water. Speed boats such as the hydrostream boats for sale are one of the many that have now been advanced in style and design.

Chris-Craft is one of the few production boats and yacht manufacturers in the world that offers painted hulls and decks, in addition to gelcoat. Why? Gelcoat is a porous surface that will oxidize in a relatively short time causing the surface finish to fade and become chalky. Out five-part DuPont Chromabase paint process provides a hardened, polyurethane UV-resistant finish.

With proper care, the surface will withstand the abuse of sun, wind, and salt from the harsh outdoor environment. When placed side by side, there is simply no comparison of a gelcoat finish to a painted finish. The high-gloss finish is easy to maintain, with a distinctive range of standard colors that will showcase your Chris-Craft for years to come.
