Boathouse fire in Ballard WA, Seattle Ship Canal, Sunday May 21, 2017. We could smell the fire down the canal before we could see it, soon after the giant smoke cloud in the sky could be spotted down the WA Ship Canal in Salmon Bay. Seattle Fireboat 1 was on fast response time on the scene, these firemen showed great courage entering the heart of the boathouse to put out the fire. A few explosions could be heard around the ship canal.

The boathouse in Ballard that caught fire destroyed four boats that were engulfed in flames. The reports say the fire broke out about 8pm, although if you were near by on the water we could smell the smoke about 7:30pm as the smoke blew eastbound down the canal, the smoke was a mixed strong smell of electrical with a strong chemical smell of old treated wood, smelled like a good size boat fire and that it was.

The Ballard Boathouse fire destroyed two 50 ft wooden boats and 2 small vessels. Seattle firemen by boat and land trucks were extremely brave and powerful in their fast efforts to put out the fire and save the surrounding boats and and hundreds of near by vessels in the WA Ship Canal of Salmon Bay. This could have been a lot worse with much more surrounding fire damage if is was not for the fast efforts of Seattle firemen on land and by fireboat out of Fishermen’s Terminal homeport of Fireboat 1. Way to Firemen, ya’ll saved the day, literally! AMEN!

The Ballard Boathouse fire cause still under investigation. It’s a good and sad wake up call for all who live, work and play on the water in the greater Seattle and Northwest region to be extra careful and cautious this boating season. Covich-Williams fuel dock is right next to the Ballard Boathouse fire. Covich-Williams serves Seattle’s maritime industry with spec diesel and gasoline, it is the pre-boomed DOE-certified fuel dock on the Salmon Bay Ship Canal. Thank heavens for Firemen fast firefighting efforts!
