The Ballard Locks did a lift from Shilshole Bay to WA Ship Canal for M/Y Avanti, in late July. Avanti made her way up the canal, per usual east bound route with a Ballard Bridge and Fremont Bridge lifts eastbound to Nautical Landing Marina on Lake Union. The per usual superyacht dockage destinations in the heart of Seattle tend to be Nautical Landing Marina on Lake Union or Salmon Bay Marine Center, SBMC just east of the Ballard Locks; this is for superyachts who want to put the boat to bed in fresh water.

This Lurssen superyacht was built for the late Jan Kulczyk a Polish businessman in the oil,  gas, mineral resources industry. He named her Phoenix, years later he had Lürssen build Phoenix II, almost 100 feet LOA. Avanti’s prior owner Kulczyk sold her to a Russian government official who named her Aurora, they later sold her in 2016; while also giving her a refit again – to a new down-low off the radar owner who recently named her M/Y Avanti.

Northrop and Johnson Yacht Brokerage sold her for what shook out to being about 58 million and change in US dollars. It’s always enlightening and well just darn interesting – when new superyacht yacht owner’s would like to be ‘under the radar’ and not noticed when they get into town; in Seattle when you drive around what looks like a 6 story skyscraper on the water it’s a bit hard not to notice when the yacht literally casts a 220 ft shadow blocking our Salty Dog Boating News daylight through the window. God Bless all superyacht owners, captains and crew who visit the greater Pacific Northwest and bring wonderful positive economic impact to our PNW maritime industry and community.
