Ballard Divers – AKA: ‘Sterling Marine Services’ this is the name that comes to mind. The Pacific Northwest is no strange to a lot of dive companies large and small. Needing a diver under your boat can be double-edged sword – either for salvage, emergency dive due to prop tork, taking on water, through holes leaking or it may be standard routine maintenance.

Sterling Divers are located in the heart of Ballard WA. This family owned and operated father and son business is led by son and avid season diver Sterling Hines. Hines has dubbed the tag line, ‘not your average divers’. ‘We love working with Fishermen the are hour favorite customers. For fishermen we typically provide underwater video inspection services to check for damage and for insurance reasons. This type of dive takes anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour. For instance we have found holes in the bottom of rolling chalks, steel cable wrapped around propellers, massive amounts of corrosion, and Bristol Bay Boats and Bering Sea Alaska boat get beaten. This is where our divers thrive. For all the AK fishermen when you need underwater welding and dive services we are known to mobilize quickly,” describes Hines with an ear to ear smile. Underwater welding is one of the most dangerous jobs out there. Alongside a thorough knowledge of the spot welding process, an underwater welder needs to understand the risks associated with welding at elevated pressures, and must be able to act accordingly. Hines went on to explain that without underwater welders, the maritime industry would struggle.

Providing FREE color high-definition video inspects of your boat view of the underwater hull. The video is a FREE add-on to any maintenance dive. Sterling Marine Divers always conduct safe professional dives. Diving areas of emphasis include – commercial vessels, fishing vessels, marine construction, underwater welding, yacht inspections and repair, floating homes, marine salvage, moorage systems, hull cleaning, underwater hull coating applications, milfoil removal, anode replacement, dry docking assistance and much more….

“Salvages are always fun and exciting. We’ve done a lot of salvage this year so far. Salvages are good because they really put our team to the test with fast mobilization due to the limited amount of lead time and poor conditions they are usually set in,” says Hines. From pleasure boats to fishing vessels in the Puget Sound to Alaska this team can handle snotty weather, harsh conditions and unknown obstacles – salvages and on the spot problem solving go hand and hand.

Yacht Diving Services: Special Feature – Hines describes how Sterling Marine Dive Services is unique in packaging and full service diving:

  1. Packages and membership that we developed for cruisers and racers. Packages make it smoother and easier to schedule and pay for services, such as zinc replacement and haul cleaning. Once again you get free video inspections with EVERY dive on your boat. That way you can see the condition of your bottom paint and your adenoids, it’s really cool to see what your prop looks like.
  2. We use YouTube to store our videos for our clients – we upload the video privately and the client can forward the dive video to friends, family, boatyards and brokers.
  3. Brokers get a free video with dive to show potential buyers what the heck the bottom looks like – its cheaper than haul out.
  4. Yes we do broker fleets and yacht clubs. Whats different about us is we manage every everything.
  5. For instance – brokers and clubs that we currently work with – the fleet manager will receive a spreadsheet clearly outlining all the vessels that we dove and the work done. We usually do this for clubs on a monthly basis. Brokers are usually looking at a 6 month program. Easy to schedule easy to pay.
